Fundamental
question. Will medical students whose clinical learning
experiences are supplemented with medical school-sponsored Web-based
and distance learning modalities be more likely to perform as
effective agents for cancer prevention and control in their eventual
practice of medicine?
The goal for this 5-year grant period is to develop, implement,
evaluate, and demonstrate performance outcomes of an integrated
online and clinical education program that provides students
opportunities to acquire relevant knowledge, master patient
counseling and clinical detection skills, and demonstrate
proficiency in proven prevention activities for the most prevalent
cancers. |
|
CATCHUM has set 5
specific aims for this stage of the project |
-
develop a 16-module
course that will cover each major site-specific cancer and will use
Internet and distance learning mechanisms
-
devise specifications
for clinical experiences in ambulatory and primary care settings to
complement the online course material
-
evaluate
effectiveness of the CATCHUM website as a platform for the delivery
of the online course by providing learning objectives, information,
learning resources, links, and tools that address the most prevalent
cancers
-
maintain the CATCHUM
infrastructure
-
continue to evaluate
and disseminate the innovative and significant outcomes of the
project, particularly as it affects faculty, students, medical
schools, and the field of cancer education
